The definitions of "master", "passen- ger", "seaman' and "vessel' are adapted from section 2 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899. The definition of "through passenger" is an adaptation from the exemption in section 7 (c) of Ordinance No. 8 of 1934. The other definitions are new.

This section is an adaptation from section 3 of the Straits Settle- ments Aliens Ordinance Chapter 90.

This section is adapted from section 16 of the above Straits Settlements Ordinance.

The sections of the repealed Ordinance have been adapted so as to require all vessels (not being or having the status of a ship of war) to hoist the signal and to under- go the Immigration Officer's examination at such place as may be ordered. The obligation to produce ship's papers and to report stowaways is new.
